Open Source Reaches the Mainstream

FTP Online announces its opinion that open source has become mainstream.

“Linux has made serious inroads into the financial sector, if testimonials from LinuxWorld Summit are anything to go by. As reported by eWeek, a panel of enterprise Linux users, drawn primarily from the outfits that handle very impressive revenue streams, were united in their opinion that switching to Linux yielded huge cost savings and stability. The CTO of a worldwide travel company said that their Linux system ran three times faster and was 90 percent cheaper than the Unix mainframe had been.”
